Care and maintenance
We’ve put together some simple tips to help you get the best from your board. Here are the essentials every board owner should know:
· Do not soak your board or put it in the dishwasher — it can warp or crack.
· Re-oil your board about once a month, or whenever it starts to look dry or dull. Use a food-safe oil and apply it directly to a dry board using paper towel, cloth, or an old T-shirt.
Why wood?
Bacteria is everywhere, and while antibacterial products are popular, hardwood timber remains one of the most hygienic materials for cutting boards. Wood has natural antiseptic properties and unique benefits:
· It’s semi self-healing — shallow cuts often close over time.
· It’s durable and ideal for everyday use.
· It doesn’t harbour bacteria like plastic boards can.
General use tips
· Wipe your board with a clean, damp cloth or sponge after use.
· Do not place it in the dishwasher or soak it in water.
· Avoid putting hot pots or dishes directly on the board — sudden heat can cause damage.
· Wipe away liquids from high-moisture foods as soon as possible.
· Use sharp knives — blunt or serrated knives are more likely to score the board.
· Avoid using a cleaver or applying excessive force — our boards aren’t designed for heavy chopping or carving.
· If your board seems to wobble, stand it on its edge overnight.
· Re-oil when it starts to look dry or dull using a food-safe oil.
